Chromebooks are known for their simplicity and speed, but gaming on them has often been challenging due to limited app support. However, there are some ways to remove this limitation and play popular games from Epic Games like Fortnite or Rocket League.
Whether you like cloud gaming or installing games locally, I’ve personally tried these methods and found they work well. In this article, I’ll share three ways to download and install Epic Games on a Chromebook.

Method 1: Using GeForce NOW to download Epic Games
If you’re looking for the simplest way to download Epic Games on your Chromebook, cloud gaming via GeForce NOW is your best option. It also doesn’t require a powerful device since the games are run on Nvidia’s servers.
Important Note – GeForce NOW is not available in some countries. Before proceeding, go to the GeForce NOW website and check if the service is available in your country. If it’s available, continue with the steps below. If it’s not available, consider moving to the second or third method.
Steps to Set Up GeForce NOW on Chromebook
1. First, go to the GeForce NOW website and download the application for your Mac.
2. After downloading the application, install it on your Mac Os. Once the app is installed, open it and sign in with your account.
3. After signing with your account, go to Settings in GeForce NOW and link your Epic Games account. This will allow you to access and play your Epic Games library directly from the cloud.
4. Once you’ve connected your Epic Games account, you’ll see your Games library. From here, just click the play button on the game you want to play, and it will stream directly to your Chromebook.
GeForce NOW is easy to set up and doesn’t require much storage since everything runs in the cloud. I’ve used it to play Fortnite on a mid-range Chromebook, and the performance was great as long as I had a stable internet connection.
Method 2: Using Heroic Games Launcher to Install Epic Games on Chromebook
Another best way to install Epic Games on a Chromebook is by using Heroic Games Launcher. This open-source launcher allows you to install Epic Games, GOG, and Amazon directly onto your Chromebook.
Set Up Heroic Games Launcher
1. First, go to Settings, scroll to Developers, and enable Linux (Beta). This allows you to run Linux apps, which we’ll need to install Heroic Games Launcher.
2. After that, Open the Terminal app on your Chromebook and run these commands to update your system.
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
3. Then, install Flatpak by running this command:
sudo apt install flatpak
4. Now, to install Heroic Games Launcher, you need to add the Flathub repository. To do so, use this command:
flatpak --user remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
5. Now, install Heroic Games Launcher with the following command
flatpak install heroic
Enter Y whenever you are prompted and press Enter to confirm the installation.
Once installed, you’ll find Heroic Games Launcher in your Linux apps folder.
Download Epic Games using Heroic
1. Open the ChromeOS app launcher and open Heroic Games.
2. Once the application opens, in the left tab, click Log in and log in with your Epic Games account.
3. Once you are logged in, Click Go to Library and you’ll see all your games.
4. Choose a game you want to play, Click on the Download button, and then Install.
5. After installation, click on the Play button to start gaming on your Chromebook.
I found Heroic Games Launcher to be the best method if you prefer not to rely on cloud gaming. The installation process is very easy, and the launcher ran well on my Intel-based Chromebook.
Method 3: Installing Epic Games via Linux and Wine (Advanced)
For advanced users who want more control, you can install the Epic Games Launcher directly on your Chromebook by enabling Linux and using Wine.
A compatibility layer for running Windows apps on Linux. This method allows you to run the official Epic Games Launcher on your Mac.
Note: This method gave me the most control over my games, but it’s also the most complicated. If you’re comfortable using the terminal and troubleshooting minor issues, then use this method. However, it requires more system resources, so I recommend it only if you have a high-end Chromebook.
Steps to Install Epic Games Using Linux and Wine
1. Just like in the previous method, go to Settings > Developers and enable Linux (Beta).
2. Open the Linux terminal and run these commands to install Wine:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine
3. Go to the Epic Games website and download the Windows version of the Epic Games Launcher.
4. After downloading the installer, you need to go to the folder where it was saved. By default, the file will be in your Downloads folder. In the terminal, use the following command to go to the Downloads directory.
cd ~/Downloads
5. Now that you’re in the correct directory, type the following command and press Enter:
wine EpicInstaller.msi
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
That’s it. Once installed, open the launcher, sign in to your Epic Games account, and start downloading games.
Conclusion
So, that’s it. By following these methods, you can successfully download and install Epic Games on your Chromebook and enjoy playing a wide range of games. However, AAA or heavy games like Control, Genshin Impact, and Ghostwire Tokyo did not run or were running very choppy. This is because even the most modern Chromebooks do not have enough power to run AAA titles.
