According to a blog post by WABetaInfo, Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp and Instagram, is testing a new feature that allows you to add your Instagram profile link directly to your WhatsApp profile. This means your friends and contacts can easily find your Instagram account by visiting your WhatsApp profile.
Right now, you can only link Instagram, but there’s a good chance that Meta might add support for other platforms, Facebook, Threads, or even non-Meta apps like X (formerly Twitter) or even LinkedIn in the future.
How Does it Work?
The process of linking your Instagram account is simple. You just have to go to your WhatsApp settings, find the option to add social media links, and enter your Instagram username and the app will generate the link automatically.
This can be especially useful for content creators, businesses, and influencers who want to make it easier for people to find them on other platforms.
The feature is currently available in WhatsApp beta version 25.7.10.70 on iOS and is also available to select Android users in the beta program. You can decide whether to make these links visible only to your contacts, all contacts except specific people, or keep it completely private.
While this is a good feature, there are a few things to keep in mind. WhatsApp doesn’t verify the Instagram profile you add, which means anyone can enter any Instagram username.
So, if you see a WhatsApp profile linked to a famous influencer’s Instagram, it doesn’t mean it’s really them. Scammers can take advantage of this, so be careful.
