Microsoft has finally put an end to all our expectations regarding Windows 12 as they have confirmed that there will be no Windows 12 in 2024. Instead, the company will focus on delivering regular updates to the latest version of its operating system, Windows 11.
The next major update, known as Windows 11 24H2, is expected to be released in the second half of 2024, which will bring new features and improvements to Windows 11 user experience, security, and performance.
Microsoft shared the news on their official Windows Insider blog post, where they announced that the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26052, is now available for Canary and Dev channels. In the release notes, it was mentioned that this year’s feature update will be called ‘Windows 11, 24H2.’
The changelog was first spotted by Windows Central. The changelog provides the following statement:
After reading the statement it is now clear that Windows 12 is not coming this year. Instead, Windows 11, version 24H2 will be this year’s annual feature update. But, we will be getting brand new AI features and the latest advancements with the upcoming Windows 11 24H2 update.
Microsoft has not yet announced the official release date of Windows 11 24H2, but the update is expected to be released to manufacturers (RTM) in April and then to the general public in September or October of 2024.
