What is Rooting?
Rooting is simply the process that allows you to gain superuser access on your Android phone. This gives the user permission to modify system files and settings usually restricted.
Benefits of Rooting:
- Remove bloatware and free up storage.
- Improve battery life by optimizing background apps.
- Install custom ROM for a new experience.
- Run apps that require root access
- Boost performance by overclocking or underclocking the CPU.
Risks of Rooting:
- Warranty voided in most cases.
- Increased risk of bricking your device if done incorrectly.
- Security risks as apps can gain deep access to the system.
- Some banking and streaming apps may stop working.
If you understand the risks and still want to proceed, letโs move on to the actual rooting process.
Things You Need Before Rooting Your Xiaomi Device
- Xiaomi device with unlocked bootloader (explained in detail below)
- PC with ADB and Fastboot installed
- USB cable (original cable is better)

How to Root Any Xiaomi Device
The first step is to unlock the bootloader. Xiaomi has tightened the security of its smartphones by locking the bootloader, which prevents people from flashing custom ROM, which is required to root Xiaomi devices.
So, to unlock the bootloader follow the steps below.
Step 1: Unlock The Bootloader
1. First of all, you need to download the unlock tool given below, extract it, and install it on your PC.
2. Now, go to settings > my devices > all specs > tap on MIUI version 7 times and you will get the developer options in additional settings.
3. Now go to the developer option and enable USB debugging.
4. Now in the developer options, click on “Mi unlock status” and click on add account and device.
5. Then try to bind your account. In case your account does not bind click again and again on add account and devices. You will successfully get a message like this.

6. After that reboot your device in fastboot, for this simply turn off your device and press the Power button and Volume Down (-) button together. Then connect the device to a Windows PC/Laptop via a Micro USB cable or Type C cable.
7. Now launch the mi unlock tool on your PC.
8. Then, log in with your mi account and it will check if your account has permission

9. After that click on the “unlock now” button.

That’s it. You have successfully unlocked the bootloader.

4. In TWRP, tap on Install and go to the Magisk zip file that you downloaded earlier. Select it and swipe to confirm the installation.
5. Once the installation is done, tap on Reboot System to restart your Xiaomi device.
6. After your device boots up, go to the app drawer and launch the Magisk App that you installed earlier. You should see a green check mark next to Magisk, indicating that your device is successfully rooted.
How to Verify Root and Install Root Apps
After rooting, if you want to verify that the root is working or not, follow these steps:
- Download any Root Checker from the Play Store.
