In the last few months, WhatsApp has been adding many new interesting features to its application. Now, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to share longer voice notes as status updates.

Previously, users could share voice notes on their status for up to 30 seconds. Now, users can record and share voice notes of up to 1 minute. This change allows people to share updates in a single recording instead of multiple ones.

WhatsApp Voice Status Updates

According to a WABetainfo blog post, WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that allows users to record and share voice notes up to one minute long as status updates. It’s also important to note that you may need to update your WhatsApp to listen to these longer voice messages shared through status updates.

As you can see in the screenshot above, you can now record voice notes for up to 1 minute by pressing the mic button, just like you do when sending voice notes in a chat.

How It Works

  • Open WhatsApp and go to the status screen.
  • Tap and hold the microphone icon (similar to how you send a voice note in chats).
  • Record your voice message for up to 1 minute by speaking into the microphone.
  • Slide to cancel the voice note if needed.
  • Once you’ve recorded your voice note, you can share it as your status update.

Your contacts will be able to listen to your 1-minute recording directly from their status feed.

In my opinion, I find this feature to share longer voice notes as status updates quite useful. Now I don’t have to split voice notes into multiple recordings. This makes communication easier and saves time for those who often share audio updates with their contacts.

The feature is now available for some users who have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on their Android or iOS devices. This update will be available to more users in the coming days.
