- WhatsApp is testing a new “Advanced Chat Privacy” feature to maintain more chat privacy.
- When enabled, it blocks others from exporting your chats and saving media automatically.
- The feature is currently available to some beta users and will notify others when it’s on.
Don’t want anyone to misuse the photos and videos you share on WhatsApp chats? Then, there is some good news. WhatsApp is working on a brand new, Advanced Chat Privacy option that would prevent others from saving media you send or exporting entire chats.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing something called “Advanced Chat Privacy” in its latest beta update for Android (version 2.25.11.2). This will block anyone who tries to export a chat, and they’ll see a pop-up saying they can’t do it.

When this new feature is turned on, if someone tries to export your chat, they will be blocked and shown a pop-up message that says: “No, you can’t do that. Advanced chat privacy is enabled.” Well, maybe not in those words, but you get the idea.
Even better, the photos and videos you share in that chat will no longer be automatically saved to the other person’s device. This is especially helpful for people like me, who once accidentally sent a weird meme to the wrong group. We’re not sure if this will stop users from taking screenshots or manually saving the file.
An interesting part of this update is that it will let everyone know that you have turned on advanced chat privacy. Whether it’s a private chat or a group, this setting brings transparency.
Right now, this feature is only available to some beta testers, so it’s not available to everyone yet. But if all goes well, it will be available to all users in the coming months.
Let’s hope it becomes available to everyone soon, and maybe include even more powerful tools for keeping our chats completely private.
